Up-side down Watercolor paintings

Upside down watercolor paintings were shown in my last exhibition in Sandnes Kunstforening, Norway.

In September and October last year I was busy with my last exhibition. Today I want to share it with you. One year ago I was working every day in my Watercolor sketchbook from Moleskin.

I challenged myself to make at least one upsidedown drawing every day. Each time, I got out some of my old fashion magazines and picked out a photo of a woman. Then I turned the photo upside down and just drew what I saw. I found this really interesting and inspiring.

More about the method here. ( Earlier post)

Below you will see photos of my process. First I painted them in a tiny little sketchbook. At first, my drawings were rather bad or strange, but after a while, I got in touch with a new style and loved the outcome I felt they were perfect material for my exhibition.

I wanted to make them larger so I copied them onto larger paper and framed them. In the photos, you can see how I did the frames. I am very happy about the way the whole thing turned out. So, in the end, I got a lovely exhibition from a challenge that was not good at the start. I would love to know your experiences.

Do you like challenges? Do you set yourself challenges? Do you take on challenges set by others? What makes a good challenge?

  1. This is a really cool idea Magny and I am sure very challenging to be able to draw and painting an image upside down! But that’s what is all about! Is great to see the strange and cool outcome! You did so well that your pieces were perfect for your exhibition that’s awesome! I love challenges you know it I did one lately that I found to be great and it is “Draw It Your Style” a nice way to show how you can paint something not yours in your style!

      1. Yes it is! You know what a cool thing to do would be? That we both choose one of our drawings and I will draw yours in my style and you one of my drawings in your style… we will post them and issue a challenge open to others to participate they can draw in their own style our two drawings! 🙂 It would be really cool what do you think? <3
