What You Should Know About Colors

Color is of fundamental importance, not just for artists, but also for photographers, interior designers,  fashion designers, in fact, everyone that works with visual media.  Colors affect our mood and emotions. If you don’t get the balance and blend of colors just right, the outcome will not be right. but if you have a good combination of colors, the result will look good, even if the subject is not perfectly portrayed.

I will tell you how to get the colors right, how to choose a combination that looks great and how to create the effect you want.

Whether you are just starting on your artistic journey or have been painting for a while and need to refresh your memory, this course will have tips and techniques that you need to know.

When you have followed this course you will see the rules and techniques that you have learned, being applied in in the most famous paintings in history, in every fashion photo, lifestyle magazine, advertisements and even in nature. You will understand why they chose a particular color or a set of colors. you will know how changing the color will affect the way we feel about the picture.  You may even dress differently or you may decide to re-look your living room after following this course,  but what is certain is that you will understand colors, you learn to use them effectively and your skills as an artist will evolve.

I want to start slowly, with the basics, to make sure we don’t leave anyone behind, but we will fairly quickly get on to techniques used every day by the professionals and finally to some secrets used by the Grand Masters.

We will use the color wheel as the starting point for our journey and proceed through more complex knowledge and techniques.

The color wheel is necessary for all painters to understand color especially the relationship of the three primaries – red, blue, and yellow and all of the colors that can be made from them. For the more advanced student, the color wheel can help remind you that there are more colors to be made. Over the years I have learned more and more and, I have to tell you, color is the most amazing thing to study.  The more you know, the more fascinating it becomes. And there are so many magical amazing things, for example, the many optical illusions.

Scientists estimate that the average human can see approximately 10 million different colors if we practice and paint we can see way more colors than others do.
